Man, I like the character johnny was trying to play back in his sex pistol days and well before his meisner training . . . he is such a horses ass it's too painful to watch those now. You can almost set your watch to it . . . 1, 2, 3, Leer, mumble eye-roll. dismiss sneer. I like when Snyder turned it around and asked Keith "Well . . . what do you LIKE?" I thought for a minute that bobby bong resin for brains head was actually going to implode. Thanks for posting Shifty.

It's an absolutely wonderful bit of theater. There could never be another interview like this again. Could be wrong. I could be riiiiiight! It fits the kind of music PiL was making around the time. Second Edition, OK kinda pretentious but aurally oh hell yes.

I have to admit I see a bit of Lydon in Westy. But in a sweet Midwestern kinda way. Minus the eye-rolling and sneers. (Are those really eye rolls or are they about to pop out of the sockets?) Or maybe I'm just overly fixated on the snappy dressing and terrific hairstyling.

Also, Christopher Guest must've studied this interview heavily. I can hear the sustain.

I like when Snyder turned it around and asked Keith "Well . . . what do you LIKE?"

Love that part. He kinda 'won' the interview with that one. You can see Keith's bong resin reaching ignition point.

Yeah I agree Daddy. So oppressively pretentious...its brutal to watch. Or maybe I'm just getting old(er).

Even so...loved this exchange...

"When you perform a live gig do you bring musical instruments to it?"

"So far."
"Adopt" (v.): To embrace as one's own.

Pure, uncomfortable gold!! Billy Bob Thornton and his 'would you ask Tom Petty that....' rant should take note.

I wish more interviews were like this. It's uncomfortable and unintentionally funny, but not in a sad way.

Love it! Uncomfortable but a bit ahead of it's time the grumpy comments are.

Thought he was a pretentious no-talent then and time has not aged him or his "music" well. The ultimate in style rather than substance. Real punks would've eaten Johnny boy and his ilk for lunch...was crap...will always be crap...fun to warch every body smoking though, and I thought Tom's sneer matched J-boys note for note...

Oh Ray, I beg to differ. The only cockpunch Johnny somewhat deserves is for inventing U2.

Begger to differ too. Those Sex Pistols singles are still great and PiL still hold up in my view. Johnny may not be able to sing in the conventional sense, but the dude's a great (admittedly completely one note) vocalist. No talent? Gah. As if any hack could've sung "God Save the Queen" and make it a fraction as awesome.
