The three best opening songs of any album I heard this year ( Saving Grace, Square One, Flirting With Time) and easily his best album since
Wildflowers.
- BoxcarTrev - (8) I think it's actually glued to my disc-changer. - Zaulson - (5) 3rd solo treat from TP. - Murmur - (3) 1973 (6), Charky (3)

The mariachi horns are much less in evidence, and this album shows just how confident Burns and Convertino are in their songwriting, leaving behind their staple sound. This is a more muscular, poppy approach and Joey sounds in great form. I lobe the storming attack of Letter to Bowie Knife, the way Lucky Dime’s effortless laid back groove just floats…and Deep Down you know…I’ve never got sick of hearing this all
year.
- Loon Rider - (9) The real treat here is Joey Burns' warm raspy voice. Like George Harrison trying out for the "Jayhawks", Burns voice is a perfect match for these killer tunes. One will barely miss the Morricone and Leoni bits. - DADDY - (8) While not as strong as Feast Of Wire, Garden Ruin was still enjoyable. A couple of songs almost got pedestrian in delivery but All Systems Red finished the album off nicely. - UnderTheMilkyWay - (5) Lunga (2) |

Nashville's worst nightmare just got scarier - "Low Down" shows he's got the chops to record a great commercial song. He went a lot further the other direction this time out, too. It was the first country album to ever receive the "Parental Advisory" label. If this man lives long enough, he might just put out a classic one of these days.
- Trailer - (4) Hank III is back with a vengeance. Notable for being the first country album with a parental advisory warning. - Roy Mcroy - (4) A surprisingly good treat from Three. - Zaulson - (4) Best country record of the year. - Tracer - (2) Brent887fm (8), Pacothelarge (1), Nvlowden (1) |
