What kind of world are we living in where the great St. Paul's first piece of serious hardware is in the form of Oscar Gold?
- DADDY - (7) Never had this much fun with a kiddie soundtrack. Works real well as the next Westy CD. - TANEYTOWN - (7) Nice power-pop from Westy...catchy tunes and his voice sounds better than it has in years. "Meet Me In The Meadow" and "Right to Arm Bears" are both great fun.. - Toad - (5) Paulhead (10), Shiftless (9), T-Rose (6), Sandusky (5), Drunken Sweetheat (4), Keylimetrev (3)

Todd Snider's satirical lyrics continue on his eighth
release, The Devil You Know. David Zollo (who’s worked with
both Greg Brown and Bo Ramsey) and two-thirds of ex-Bis-Quits
(Will Kimbrough and Tommy Womack) also help out, Zollo playing piano on
the barrelhouse If Tomorrow Never Comes and Snider ending
the song with “If worms had daggers, Birds wouldn’t fuck with
them”. The much sought after session player and touring guitarist
Will Kimbrough plays on six of the eleven tracks. Womack’s guitar solo
on the title track is only one of several highlights on this great T.S.
release. Other gems incluse Looking For a Job, You Got Away
With It (A Tale of Two Fraternity Brothers), Thin Wild Mercury
and Happy New Year. Oh Boy! Another John Prine in the
making. Poor Phil Ochs. - Gas OJ - (8) Killer new album from the Todd. His most rocking in years. - Roy Mcroy - (8) This was a weird one, if it was late in the year would not have even made my list, did not care for it at first, a real grower. - Mikemc - (7) |
