Many artists are compared to the great man – Mr. Dylan. None of those comparisons come closer than Josh Ritter. This artists just gets better and better. The real thing.

This is the one record I kept coming back too. Solid songwriting and performances. - Erschen - (10) Amazing songwriting. Josh is the greatest songwriter of this generation. - Dreadneck - (9) Josh Ritter seems to improve with each passing day...and 'The Animal Years' is the most recent proof of that. This album is filled to the brim with catchy....yet traditional folk-based songs. The future looks bright for Josh Ritter. - Jesse Aaron - (6) Another thank you to some ACT people who pushed this. Thin Blue Flame is amazing. - Under The Milky Way - (6) |

| Nice album. Would be higher, but after many listens it started to grow old. And despite what many say, 'Thin Blue Flame' is unlistenable to me. - Steve Stringer - (5) | |||||||||||
| Solid album with a great sound courtesy of Brian Deck. - Travel By Sea - (4) | |||||||||||
| For some time I thought this album was a bit heavy handed, but then I let it go and loved it. - Matt Mett - (2) | |||||||||||

"God's Gonna Cut You Down" warrants this the best alt country album of the year. Special mention goes to his cover of Hank Williams' "Evening Train". - Roy McRoy - (10) Almost unbearably sad, The Man In Black’s valedictory set of songs is delivered with dignity and a lack of self pity – the sound of a man at peace with his maker and ready to make the move to the next world. Cash never had a terrific vocal range but the cracks in the voice and shortness of breath make this all the more poignant. And whatever you think about Rubin’s work on these albums, the production is tasteful. Hard to listen to without a lump in your throat. - Loon Rider - (8) I've waited for this disc since before Johnny died, and it was pretty much worth the wait. It's a vocal performance full of absolute heartbreak, not one to listen to if you need cheering up. - Fatelvis - (7) A powerful final act(?) from the Man in Black. I teared up many a time listening to this one. - Trailer - (6) |
